For 12/6: Amplify Your Voice launches video series on abstinence-only programs

What message is this video (Amplify Your Voice launches video series on abstinence-only programs) giving?

  1. The video with the animated bears talking about abstinence was, for lack of a better word, freaky. The last analogy, with the one bear acting as the "virgin" and the cup of spit handed to him to drink frankly made me want to throw up. That abstinence exercise, if not the others as well, really over-stepped some boundaries. The message that this video is giving is that girls/women who have sex before marriage are disgusting and that, as we have discussed before is wrong, and very judgemental. You can't just look at someone after knowing they've had sex and just come to the conclusion that all they are is disgusting. That they don't have any other personal qualities about them whether they're funny, nice, talented, etc. You can't just look at someone and think, "welp, they're just a dirty toothbrush now." after they've had sex. That's just extreme closed-mindedness right there.

  2. The message that this video is giving up is that a woman virginity is equal to their value. Even though the examples they give are digusting I believe they are good for young girls. Once girls start to grow up then those examples wouldn't mean as much to them. I feel that these examples should be taught to each young girl while in school. I rememeber when I was a young girl I was taught an example similar to the ones that are in the video.

  3. Although the antics used to display the message was a bit unorthodox, I identify and support the message. Abstinence or purity is something that needs to be taught more to young women because popular to nonbelief a great deal of a woman’s worth through their pureness and cleanliness. One thing I will say is that they should find more ways to speak to men about the issue, because pureness is not strictly for women.
