  1. It is nice that the Coalition for Illinois Midwifery wants to make sure a safe, licensed professional midwife is available for service. I believe if a women wants to have her child at home she should be able to do so. There could be multiple reasons why she would need to have the birth at home besides her own personal choice. She could have financial restrictions that would hinder her from hospital bills. If other states allow this practice to happen in households why does Illinois feel the need to restrict us of another life choice?

  2. I find it sad, that women in the State of Illinois cannot have the expertise of a midwife; and I find it refreshing that the Coalition is looking to change Illinois Law; and, wants to ensure safety of the mother and child during the birthing process; i.e. licensing, training, and certification. When I had my three children (23, 20 & 18 years ago; respectively) we were not given the choice for having a baby at home. Our choices were if we wanted an epidural or natural childbirth; or, if we wanted to have the baby in our room or the delivery room of the hospital. OH, HOW times have changed! Thinking back now, I know I would have been more comfortable and relaxed with this option.----Marje Hood

  3. In Illinois we can have a Certified Nurse Midwife deliver babies IN A HOSPITAL if there's a midwife who works at the hospital, but we don't have the home-birth option.
