option for 4/25: In J. Crew add mom paints son's toenails pink

Watch the video. What do you think makes people react so strongly to a boy with pink toenails? In the video, what kinds of arguments do you hear in support of the add, or against it?

  1. I think it is completely off the wall to assume a little boys favorite color is going to be the deciding factor of whether he is gay or straight, and I would think anyone who thinks that needs to do some re-evaluating. Like stated in the short video "it is common for children to cross-dress and play make believe" there is nothing to worry about. A child of that age has no concept of what gay or straight even is so I don't know how painting a boys toes would encourage him to lean towards something he knows nothing about. If Jenna was trying to implement anything by painting her sons toes I would think it was to inforce a support system rather than shutting down the things her son likes just because of sterotypes.

  2. I think that this is a little blown out of proportion. As they said that if it was a little girl playing in the mud with trucks then nobody would say anything. I don't think that it should be a big deal if she decides to do that with her son, its nail polish so it should be harmless. If the son has no problem with it and agrees to everything then I don't see anything wrong with this picture at all. Its cute, and they both look happy.
