What effect does paid maternity/paternity leave have on infant mortality?

  1. I think it is ridiculous that the United States doesn't offer paid leave for all mothers of newborn child! The story of Selena and her baby shows the anguish a mother goes through during the first two and a half weeks of her newborns life. She has to work to support the baby while her newborn is motherless at the hospital. The first two weeks of a newborns life should be the happiest two weeks of that woman's life but instead she is worried about her baby while she is at the job.Something needs to change the way mothers are treated by their employers when they have a newborn to take care of.

  2. The way that the employment system treatment for new mothers and parents in general in my opinion disrespectful and heartless. The majority of the companies do not consider the time, patience, and dedication it takes to raise a child. By not offering families, mothers and fathers, paid leave is honorable because the companies care more for the betterment and progression of the company, then the life and care of the child and family members. There needs to be great change in the way the United States handles employment and maternity leave, and it must happen quickly.
