Option 2 for 1/31: Why isn’t the media talking about another 9-year-old girl killed by political violence in Arizona?

Why isn’t the media talking about another 9-year-old girl killed by political violence in Arizona?:
After reading the above link, say whether or not you'd heard of this shooting, and if you had not, why you think the media has not covered it.

Why was this 9-year-old, Brisenia, shot?

Also, what might it have to do with Women's Studies?

  1. I do slightly remember hearing about this. I think that it really isn't being covered is due to the fact that it happens so much. I think that there has been between 30 and 50 shootings in 2010 where I am from (I can't find an exact number). It has gotten to the point where they mention it on the news once and move on.

I believe that the reason why the shooting that happened in 2009 isn't getting into the media is because someone went after HER family. In the more recent one, the shooting was aimed at the government official.

  2. Even though this is a sad reality I feel like the reason this story wasn't covered very much is because it happens so often. Maybe not necessarily the killing of an innocent little girl, but violence of that nature is very much present in our society. To the her killers, the little girl must have seemed insignificant to have just been shot like that, but to the majority of society she was an innocent young girl and I think that more coverage maybe should have been done on this. Also, more about her mom (who was shot AND survived) could have been said.

  3. I didn't hear about this at all. I believe the main reason why the media don't really talk about things like this because its something that happens all the time. so maybe they feel as if it's not important to talk about it and what happen and the cause of it.
